What is the difference between the Silicone and Tiffany technique?

Tiffany Technique

The Tiffany Technique, also known as soft soldering, refers to the technique of adhering copper foil to glass and soldering the glass together into different designs.
  • The copper welds give a more industrial and not minimalist look.
  • Not Hermetical, the cooper welded joints filter water and cant maintain the humidity of a closed terrarium.
  • Requires more experience to build more complex designs.
  • Need specific soldering tools and materials.

Silicone Technique

The Silicone Technique is an Asian technique that uses different kinds of silicone rubbers to carefully adhere glass in many different designs, giving not only minimalistic and stylish details but hermetically closed joints.
  • Minimalistic and elegant design.
  • Hermetically closed which dont filter water and help maintain the humidity of the terrarium for longer periods.
  • Easier to build more complex geometrical designs.
  • Everyone can do it. Don't need special tools.
